Handblown Glass - Amber
*Sold out in small size
These handblown glass pieces are unique accent pieces or as holiday ornaments. The large ones look beautiful atop a stack of books on a shelf or table. They also look great when grouped in mixed sizes in a bowl or on a tray. Each piece is a unique work of art. Available in 2 sizes and 3 colors - turquoise, amber and clear.
Glass blowing was invented by Syrians Syria around 1 BC when they introduced the blowpipe. Previously, glass was poured into moulds, but the blowpipe enabled artisans to create new shapes and intricate designs. Today, ancient crafts like this are struggling to survive in war-torn Syria with the local market dwindling, if not completely disappearing for some.
The makers of our glass pieces are a community of families near Damascus who have been working in this field for generations. Using traditional clay furnaces that must be rebuilt every year, the artisans produce beautiful pieces of art from recycled glass in an array of colors.
